Delaware County Emergency Services Turns to Zello for Dynamic Communications

Highlights

  • Cost to establish communication networks decreased
  • Time to establish new lines of communication decreased
  • Gateways expanded the range of radio communications
  • Secure channels enabled a wide range of agencies and personnel to communicate

The team at Delaware County Emergency Services weaves in, out, around, and through Southeastern Pennsylvania, moving fluidly between urban and suburban settings. In March of 2020, as the team prepared to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, Steve Castellano, the organization’s 911 Systems Manager/IT Leader, was on the hunt for a solution to augment their radio systems, knowing they were going to need to be able to shift their response quickly as the situation changed.

Challenges

Traditionally, communicating between newly established response centers has required placing specialized equipment in the field like portable repeaters, and even transporting a mobile radio tower on a trailer across the county to deploy specialized channels.

How Zello Helped

Castellano enrolled in the Zello for First Responders program for free and began to roll out gateways and securely add Zello users and channels to the system’s public safety, emergency management, police, fire, and EMS agencies.
